Whole House Hepa Installation Instructions For Qualified Contractors

Important: It is good practice to unpack the whole house hepa and plug it in to ensure it is operating properly before starting your installation (inspect unit for any shipping damage and make sure fan wheel turns freely)

To Connect To A Forced Air System

The Whole house hepa filter cabinet can be installed either vertically or horizontally (see schematic diagram for detailed information)

1. Vertical Installation: Determine the location where you wish to hang the unit from the floor joists. We recommend using the black isolation straps that are available through your supplier (see parts list). Cut the straps (4) to the length that suits your installation.

Undo the threaded screws on the top sides of the filter cabinet and attach isolation straps. You will need to punch a small hole in the strap to allow the threaded screws to fit through. Once all your four straps are attached, lift the cabinet into place and fasten the straps to the floor joist. You can use 1 1/4" wood screws or 1 1/4 " nails.

You may find it easier to have holes already punched in the isolation strap that coincide with where the screws or nails will be fastened to the floor joists. It is important to try and keep the cabinet as level as possible.

The top left hand port is the intake port. If this is not the most convenient spot for the intake it can be blocked off and a similar opening can be made in the top, back or opposite side. We recommend a 4 x 10 boot the transitions into a 6" or 7" round connection be attached to the intake port and taped with quality aluminum foil tape to ensure a tight long lasting air seal.

The bottom right hand opening is the outlet air. This opening cannot be blocked off or moved. A similar 4 x 10 boot should be securely fastened and taped to this opening. The Whole House HEPA is now ready to hang from the floor joists. Once it is securely in place it is time to cut wholes in the return air ductwork. The first hole will be located upstream in the return air plenum and be connected to the top intake on the Whole House HEPA..

This connection point will draw unfiltered air to the Whole House Filter. We Recommend a side or top take off be used that has a corresponding round transition to gauge the size of the hole to be cut (6" or 7" round). Flexible duct can be used if the distance is not too great. Now cut a hole closer to the furnace in the return air plenum to introduce the filtered air after filtration. This can be done the same as the air intake. The hole can be cut in the return air plenum drop but not too close that the furnace blower will impede the connection. Check and make sure all ducts are connected and taped. The machine can now be plugged in and turned on.

2. Horizontal Installation:  The horizontal installation procedure is very similar to the vertical installation instructions. First determine where the Whole House HEPA can be installed that is most convenient for all connections. The filter access door will be facing downward with the back of the Whole House HEPA fastened to the floor joists by 4 straps. Determine where the 4 holes in the back of the filter must be drilled to give the Whole House HEPA support and balance. Attach the hanging straps and connect to the joists. Keep the Whole House HEPA as level as possible and make your connections as described in the vertical installation.
